MOUNTAINS: Mountains, found on every continent, occupy over 25% of the planet and are home to about one tenth of the world’s population. The World Conservation Union defines mountains as being conspicuous, steep features having altitudinal plant zonation, and at least 900 ft (300 m) in relative relief.
