ANCIENT FORESTS: Simply defined as the planet's old-growth or original "native" forests, ancient forests can usually be identified by the presence of big or old trees. The biggest trees in the world are found in the Pacific Northwest, where a Douglas fir or western red-cedar can reach more than 200 ft and 10 ft in diameter.
